The steps to handling permanent dentures are not complex. Your permanent denture appointment may look something like this:
- We will first clear out any decay or damage left over by your teeth.
- Dr. Alatorre will place the implants in a surgical procedure.
- Once the implants have healed, you will come back for another visit.
- Dr. Alatorre will place an abutment to keep the permanent dentures steady.
- Using the abutment, Dr. Alatorre will place the dentures onto your teeth.
- Our office will adjust the dentures to fit your needs. After this, you are all done!
Removable Dentures
As their name suggests, removable dentures can be removed at any time, and usually come in full or partial upper and lower sets, depending on your needs. As mentioned above, these removable teeth can be made permanent through the insertion of a dental implant.
Placing Removable Dentures
The process of placing removable dentures is less invasive and more cost-effective than permanent dentures. Here are some things to expect when you go in for your visit.
- Initial Visit: We will first remove any trace of infection or decay in your teeth.
- Take the Impression: We will create a mold of your teeth to be sent to a lab!
- Lab Work: Your brand-new teeth will be created in the lab.
- Placement: Your teeth will be adjusted and placed typically during a separate visit.
Fixed Bridges
Dental bridges can be thought of as miniature dentures, though the processes are very different. A bridge is one or more false teeth joined to adjacent natural teeth or multiple dental implants. They allow for only one titanium post to hold all the required replacement teeth!
Should I Use Permanent, Removable, or Fixed Bridges?
- Permanent dentures are built for patients who need to improve their jaw structure, prefer more rigid material, and don’t mind spending a little more money on their treatment. Permanent dentures provide a long-lasting treatment that functions similarly to your normal teeth.
- Removable dentures are for patients who prefer more of a cost-effective solution that doesn’t require too much maintenance or interference on their end. These dentures are an ideal option for those who would prefer a more comfortable option that makes cleaning and removal easy.
- Fixed bridges are for our clients who only need dental replacements for a few subsequent sets of missing teeth. This is not meant for major dental work, such as replacing the top or bottom sets of your jaw. These dentures are great for those who need more of a touch-up to their care.
